Zhiming's Wedding, among an eventful weekend
This is another outdated post. Happens on Sept 10 2005, Saturday.
It's a busy weekend for me. There's a barflies outing to Changi Village, Charlie's Corner on Friday, 9th Sept. After a week of organising, Lady Red, the organiser, found out that she has some last minute stuff and can't go and she cancelled it. Somehow it got back alive again, and we still met at Charlie's corner. We were expecting about 5 to turned up, in the end there's 8 of us. I met Frenie and CG at Raffles City first before going to Tanah Merah MRT and took a bus to Changi Village. We met wtih King Meng in the MRT. Nad, Makan Guru, Urban Male Bitch were already there. Airhole and Zavalta came later. The food is ok. There's alotta variety of beer. The ambience is pretty cozy. After dinner, the barflies went to various places to chiong while I go Pasir Ris for Garry's Chalet.
Garry ballot and got a company chalet in Pasir Ris for that weekend. It's more of a bungalow though. We played some games and June, Choo, Weiling and Me played mahjong after the rest have gone to sleep. We went to sleep at abt 5am. I am supposed to meet Xiangsheng at 6am outside the chalet. He coming to pick me up in a taxi and we are going to Zhiming's house in Ang Mo Kio together.

Juliana, the bride, lives pretty nearby, so we set off at about 8am.

The "bride's brother" getting his ang bao. I did not check his actual relations with the bride, though traditionly, it should be the brother if there's 1.

The 1st thing that the girls at the gate wanted us to do is to wear stockings over our head, go to the ground floor, do pushups and shout "Juliana I love you". I thought this is abit stupid. Wearing stockings over our heads in public is almost demeaning liao, though it can be a fun line between demeaning and embarassing. We don't want to do it and managed to bargain it down to putting the stockings over our heads and doing the pushups outside the door. Only Zhiming is doing the shouting. The next is to drink 2 bottles of freshly squeezed lime juice. It's my favourite. I almost finished 1 bottle on my own. The 2nd bottle was untouched. There's a funny salty taste at the bottom of the bottle. I wonder if it's due to the reaction of the juice with the bottle, and I've not had any breakfast before that. I ended up with a stomach upset later.
The 3rd game is to brazilian wax our leg hair with the words I heart Juliana. Again, we refused to do it. Our precious leg hair cannot be removed. We still wanna wear our bermudas out. We managed to bargain to shaving 1 strand of leg hair from Zhiming's leg. Pheeew.
The last game is agreeable though. The gers passed us some sweet gel thingy that we supposed to draw the words I Heart Juliana on our palms. We did it, took a pic pretending to lick the words.
Finally it's the ang bao. They wanted to inspect the ang bao before opening the door. But as the amount in there is abit small, we managed to get grandma to open the door for us. *evil snicker*

After that is pretty much Zhiming's show. He gotta sings a song outside the bedroom, before the door is opened. His mother in law sang along with him. He went in, kiss the bride, came out with her, performed some rituals and the tea ceremonies.

What a lovely couple.
As the ceremonies doesn't concern us much, some of us brothers went outside to have our breakfast. The coffee shop where we had the breakfast is where i empty my bowels.... The toilet is very hot. I am all sweat when I came out.
After that it's back to Zhiming's place for more tea ceremonies. I was in the room surfing web and checking out the Cowboy Bar.
The next stop will be the church. Well, it's the usual church stuffs. There were songs, and the pastors made some speech and sermons. And they had the wedding solemnization in the church. And then it's the lunch reception. And then it's back home for some rest b3fore the wedding dinner. As I was preparing to go to the church, I realised that I do not have my wallet with me. Couldn't find it anywhere. Luckily Zhiming remember seeing it in his place. So Weiliang drove me and Zhiming's brother to his place to collect my wallet. Feel so sorry for troubling them.
I go home straight from Ang Mo Kio. Had a short nap and a change of clothes for the dinner.

This is the march in pictures. Aren't the bubbles nice?
I took pictures of the dishes served. But I decide aganist posting them here so as not to make this article too big.

This is the couple sharing their cross nuptial toast, or whatever u call that...

This is the cork from the champage that they popped for the yam seng ritual. Unlike Jerry and mich's wedding, there's no number in the cork, so can't buy 4D for it. :P
We brothers helped out the photographers during the photo taking. It went pretty smoothly I think. Luckily for Zhiming, and luckily for us, there's not much guests who wanna "toast" him. I think he drunk more during his Bachelor's night.

1 last picture before we left.
After that I went back to the chalet. Garry's colleague were having some gathering nearby and she (I think it's a she, but I am not sure) asked Garry to let them use the toilet and stuffs when they need and that they are going to pitch a tent or something outside. Out of the kindness of his heart, Garry offerred them the use of 1 room. Which he regretted. Beoh Siong was to wake up early the next morning and he went to bed early. But they were so noisy and rowdy despite us telling them repeatedly to lower the volume. It also affected us when we play out games. And they were still making alotta noise when we went to sleep. Luckily I am too tired to care much and sleep till morning.
We had our breakfast, and played some games. Then lunch and it's pack up and home.

Wenny homecoming
Wenny was my JC + poly classmate. He's a smart guy. Handsome too. :) He went Taiwan on a 22 months work contract, but he say the project will be delated, so he's probably gonna be there for more than 2 yrs. He still got about 1/2 yr left.
He have 2 air tickets a year to come back. He came back once during cny and he'll ocme back again at nov this year to help out in Garry's big day. And he came back about 1 month ago. Partly to meet up with Minar who's leaving for Australia for good. and partly to organise a meet the parents session for his gf, Wendy. :P
And she's an army captain in Taiwan. Wooo! 制服诱惑!Haha!
Anyway, Wenny told me this trip he's paying out of his own pocket cos he needa save the company ticket for Garry in November. Garry, if you see this, Wenny say he not giving u any ang bao liao. Haha! Kidding.
We met up for a drink on Saturday night at Harry's in Esplanade. Before that we went to Makan Sutra next door for dinner. We ordered BBQ Stingray, satay, fried hokkien mee, lala and BBQ chicken wings. Other than the chicken wings, the rest are all stuffs that you can't get in Taiwan. All for Wendy's benefit. And also for our benefit, cos we like to them as well. :P
After that, we went to Harry's. and Gerald left.

This is the only group photo taken that night... Not much of a group. Haha!
The live band performing that nite is supposed to be quite good. there was 1 time where the lead guitarist was at Wala Wala when I was there. They invited him to perform a few numbers. He's good. But we were not paying attention. We were busy talking among ourselves and catching up with each other. We used to be working in the same company. Minar is going to Australia. Wai Hong has also left the company some time ago. Chee Wee and Irene are still there. Me has also left.
After the drink, wenny said he wanna show wendy the nite spot of Singapore. So we went to Zouk. It was pretty deserted. I wonder if it's cos we are too early, but it's already 12mn. We ordered our drinks walk around. Walk over to Phuture, finish our drinks and go home. I thought I enjoyed Phuture slightly more, though it's meant for the younger crowd. Me must be young at heart. Haha!
With that, good bye wenny. see you again in November!.

Life can end anytime..
Just went to Clarice's Dad's wake. Appparently, they discovered he got liver cancer about 5 weeks ago. It was already in the advanced stage. After trying means to be cured, they finally resigned to the fact that he's gonna die about 1 week before he died. He left us on Tuesday, 20th Sept 2005 at about 2am.
I remmebered one of the composition title I have to do during secondary school times is what I will do if I only have 1 month to live. I don't know Clarice's dad personally, but he's the first person I know that die an abrupt death. Someone in my school died of chicken pox during the holidays when I was in primary school. Someone from my unit died in an accident. In both case, I don't know the deseaced at all. And I was young.
What does it feel like to wait for death? What does it feel like to leave your family when your daughter is still in her early twenties. We don't live forever. The often heard phrase about living everyday as if it's your last suddenly makes sense. I hope that the day that I die, I do not bring with me too much regret.
My condolences goes to Clarice and her family. I hope that they can find the strength to carry on and to bring him honour and pride when he looks down at them from up there. Take care Clarice.

Bachelor nite for Zhiming
Before I carry on, we are very docile animals here. No wild hanky panky stuffs. So don't get too disappointed. :P
Zhiming getting married on the 10th, so we arranged for a drinking session on the 2nd. It was grandma's brithday celebration as well, so I went to Furama Riverfront for the birthday dinner, then join them at Funan Center at about 9pm. Funan Center for drinking session? Nah, we are not that boring. I had initially suggested Father Flannagan at Chijmes, and they were having dinner at Funan Center. They decided to go to Brewerkz instead after dinner though.

Thats Zhenyuan and Xiangsheng.

And this is Xiangsheng with Zhiming.
We had the Brewerkz sampler set first. And we decided to get a jar of Golden Beer and a jar of Stout. I forgot the name of the Brewerkz stout...

We ordered tortilla chips and sotongs too.

Weiliang, the guy in red on the left, is married. Xiangsheng, the 1 in white in the middle is getting married soon. The rests are available. I think...
After we finished the beer, we ordered a Flaming Lambogini for Zhiming. He said he never drinks, so we give him a good one. :)

Zhiming before the Flaming Lambo.
Zhiming while drinking.

Zhiming after the Flaming Lambo. And the waitress who served him. Not much difference, is there?
We moved to Mohd Sultan after that. Zhiming say he never been there. It sure was pretty desserted. On a Friday night some more. Guess it's no longer the place to chiong now. Dbl O and The Newsroom Bar is still doing ok though.
We settled on the Sound Bar. We had a bottle of Corona each, and Zhiming had an extra Tequila pop. That sorts of wrap up the night. Pretty boring eh?

Cheap bread
I had wanted to wait for the web host to be up before posting anything. But it's been 3 weeks liao, and I got alotta things to say. haha!
And I am afraid that I may lose what little viewship that I have now totally if I dun write sometihng soon...
1 mth ago, at around National Day time, I saw this sign at Break Talk as I walked past that says something like $1 for selected breads. My 1st impression that it's quite cheap and thinking of buying a couple. My subsequent thoughts stopped me. We had really moved a long way. The last time that I buy bread, it used to cost about $0.50 each. $0,30 is cheap, and $0.90 is expensive. More than that is considered very expensive liao. But here I am, thinking that $1 bread is cheap...
Kudos to Bread Talk for marketing well done. They had managed to sell something that pp are used to buying cheaply at double the price, and pp are still very much happy to buy from them again. Thats good marketing and good service.

Updates
Been sometime since I last blogged. Thanx for checking by during these times. There are so much I wanted to say! Now I think I've forgotten 1/2 of them...
Anyway, I received word from my web host that they are unlikely to go ahead with the US$100 for lifetime hosting offer. Instead they are giving lifetime 50% discount for all beta testers. I don't know how much is 50%, if it's too much, I may just change server. Again. Sigh. I hope this time it's less migration as I'll be using Typo again and it should just be a simple transfer of database...
It's been 3 weeks since my server went down. And I still got no idea how much more time they need to fix all their problems and come back online. I'll just have to hold out till they are done and see what's their deal...
ps: If you are confused about the 2nd paragraph, my blog used to be hosted at RailsAppHosting. They are a web hosting that is run on Ruby On Rails and they require some beta testers to test their servers. So I get to host my blog on their servers for free as a beta tester. All was nice and sweet until they decide to go live and take down their servers to do final adjustments which took 3 weeks and counting.
Before they went down, they were saying that they are offering us beta testers US$100 for lifetime hosting which is really yummy.
